The Oscars this year were slightly overshadowed by storm clouds and heavy rain, but the inclement weather couldn’t dampen the stars’ enthusiasm for showcasing their stunning outfits. It’s no secret that an unofficial competition for the best-dressed title takes place every year. Here, we present the most memorable dresses from the Oscars evening.
Lupita Nyong’o
Lupita Nyong’o, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, shone in a striking pale blue silk Prada gown. The deep V-neck and voluminous pleated skirt allowed the dark-skinned beauty to look both unique and romantic.
Sandra Bullock
Sandra Bullock, a nominee for Best Actress in the sci-fi space saga ‘Gravity,’ opted for a classic evening dress in a beautiful dark blue color by designer Alexander McQueen. The highlights of the outfit were the heart-shaped neckline, unusual draping, and long train. Unfortunately, the beauty didn’t take home the Oscar.
Cate Blanchett
The star of the evening was Cate Blanchett, who won the golden statuette for Best Actress. The star of ‘Blue Jasmine,’ as if sensing her victory, chose a truly fantastic Armani gown. In this incredibly tender and romantic nude-colored dress, the actress’s slender and graceful figure looked simply stunning!
Meryl Streep
Another star who left without an Oscar this year was Meryl Streep. The veteran of Hollywood cinema, and of the awards themselves (Streep has been nominated for an Oscar 18 times!), arrived on the red carpet in a strict classic outfit by Lanvin. The black bottom and white top – on another woman, this combination might have looked banal, but not on Meryl. The floor-length skirt and blouse with an asymmetrical draped neckline – even though Mrs. Streep didn’t get her fourth Oscar, she certainly earned the title of ‘Elegance Personified’!
Angelina Jolie
Contrary to experts’ fears that Angelina Jolie would appear in her favorite black color at the Oscars ceremony, the star chose a silver dress with long sleeves, embroidered with sequins, for this solemn event. In the luxurious outfit from the Elie Saab Fall 2013 couture collection, Jolie looked magnificent, and the semi-transparent neckline made the beauty’s image incredibly sexy.
Julia Roberts
Superstar Julia Roberts bet on classic style for this year’s Oscars ceremony and didn’t lose! The actress looked wonderful in a black dress from the Givenchy couture collection. The dress fit Julia’s figure perfectly, and the lace-trimmed bodice and matching basque only emphasized the actress’s grace and slenderness.
