Peter Rykov: Showcasing a Professional’s Work with Authenticity

Peter Rykov, a man of action, deeply knowledgeable, well-read, and modest, has an impressive filmography of over seventy films. His characters are known for their strong will, masculine energy, intelligence, nobility, and aristocracy. In this interview, Peter shares his memories, views on fashion, style, and art, and discusses his musical preferences and memorable cinematic roles.

Childhood Memories and Early Life

When asked about the phrase “the sky of childhood,” Peter recalls a clear blue sky, frosty air, and crunchy white snow. He spent much of his childhood with his grandparents in Zlatoust and Barnaul, creating magical memories that could fill a book like Alexey Tolstoy’s “Childhood of Nikita.” Born on December 30th, Peter considers himself a “winter person,” often wishing for eight months of snowy winter and four months of autumn.

One of his earliest memories is “exposing” Ded Moroz (Grandfather Frost) at the age of three. Living in Novgorod with his mother, a family friend and her partner dressed as Snegurochka (Snow Maiden) and Ded Moroz visited them before the New Year. Young Peter immediately recognized them, ruining the surprise. He was an independent child, taking the bus to kindergarten, running errands, and cleaning the house. He preferred serious interactions, even as a child, reflecting his Capricorn nature.

Love for St. Petersburg

Peter’s love for St. Petersburg blossomed later in life. Initially, brief visits with friends during his late teens did not leave a lasting impression. However, during a trip for auditions, he stepped off the train, breathed in the city’s unique atmosphere, and felt an immediate connection. With each passing hour, his desire to live in St. Petersburg grew stronger. Today, he contemplates moving there, despite spending twenty years in Moscow.

Moscow, with its fast pace, is ideal for work if one can keep up. However, Peter often finds himself unsatisfied at the end of the day, despite his accomplishments. His mother, on the other hand, has always been enchanted by Moscow, ever since a school trip where she saw the Borodino Panorama on Kutuzovsky Prospekt.

Education and Language Proficiency

Peter studied at the Dashkova Institute in Moscow, specializing as a linguist-translator. He believes that learning foreign languages is as beneficial as studying music or mathematics. A quote by Mikhail Lomonosov, “Mathematics should be studied because it puts the mind in order,” left a lasting impression on him. Peter enjoyed studying music and languages, showing aptitude in both. He initially attended a music school and later enrolled in the translation faculty of the Smolensk Humanities University, eventually transferring to the Dashkova Institute in Moscow.

Modeling Career and Travels

During his studies, Peter began modeling in Moscow, leading to a transfer to the capital. After graduation, he worked abroad for four years, not as a translator, but within the fashion industry. This career allowed him to travel extensively, visiting Europe, Japan, and the USA with a work visa.

His two-month stay in Japan was particularly memorable. He appreciated the architecture of Tokyo and the Japanese respect for landscape. Although he found Japanese people to be reserved, he enjoyed the cultural experience. Among Asian cuisines, he prefers Japanese over Chinese or Vietnamese, finding Japan to be an exception to his general preferences.

Views on Beauty and Style

With extensive experience in modeling, Peter has developed a nuanced understanding of beauty and style. Initially, he desired expensive, beautiful clothes, but his perspective evolved. In modeling, youth and beauty are paramount, and personal style takes a backseat during work. Similarly, in acting, the focus is on the character’s costume rather than personal attire.

Peter believes that beauty is not defined by standards, and sexuality is not measured in kilograms or centimeters. He appreciates the current era, where diverse styles coexist, allowing individuals to express themselves uniquely. Whether it’s wearing a Cossack outfit, a cowboy hat, or punk attire, personal style is a form of self-expression.

Historical Costumes and Character Transformation

Historical costumes play a significant role in Peter’s acting career. Wearing a historical costume helps him immerse himself in the character and the era. The process of changing into costume and makeup allows him to internally transform, adapting to the rules of the game dictated by the costume. This transformation is akin to donning a second skin, aiding in the portrayal of the character.
