Julio Iglesias Faces Sexual Assault Allegations from Former Staff
Julio Iglesias Accused of Sexual Assault and Abuse by Former Housekeeper
Renowned Spanish singer Julio Iglesias, aged 82, is facing serious allegations of sexual assault and humiliation from two former employees. The accusations come from a housekeeper and a physiotherapist who worked at his Caribbean estates. Both women have claimed they were subjected to harassment, rape, and psychological pressure. The Spanish prosecution has initiated a preliminary investigation into these allegations.
The Allegations
The events in question allegedly took place in 2021 at Iglesias’s residences in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. At the time, Iglesias was 77 years old, and one of the alleged victims was just 22. The first accuser, identified as Rebecca, stated that she was hired as a housekeeper after a seemingly standard selection process. However, she found it strange when a man responsible for personnel asked her to provide full-body photographs.
Rebecca claims that Julio Iglesias made overtly sexual advances, inquired about her intimate life, and used degrading language. She alleges that the sexual assault was accompanied by severe pain and that she was plied with alcohol before the incidents. According to Rebecca, these events were not isolated but part of a terrifying routine that she felt trapped in for a long time.
Additional Accusations
A second woman, Laura, who worked as a physiotherapist for Iglesias, also reported inappropriate behavior. She described unwanted touching, kisses, and humiliating demands. Laura stated that Iglesias demanded she show her breasts and inquired if they had been surgically enhanced. When she attempted to refuse, she was met with insults and pressure, ultimately forcing her to comply. Laura recalled feeling helpless and trapped in an atmosphere of fear and total control.
Living Conditions
Both women described life in Iglesias’s residences as isolated and oppressive. They claimed that employees lived in near-complete isolation from the outside world, with limited access to communication and under constant surveillance. Any attempts to object or express dissatisfaction were allegedly perceived as threats and could result in termination or worsened conditions. The women emphasized that they felt not just like employees but like dependent individuals unable to protect their boundaries.
Investigation and Public Reaction
The Spanish portal El Diario reported the completion of its own three-year investigation. Journalists claimed to have contacted 15 individuals who worked in Iglesias’s homes in the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, and Spain from the late 1990s to 2023. The testimonies of the two women were consistent and supported by documents, including photographs, medical reports, visas, call logs, and messenger conversations.
The prosecution of the National Court of Spain confirmed that an official complaint was filed on January 5, 2026, and a preliminary criminal investigation has begun. A representative of the department noted that the process is confidential, but the media and public interest in the case is evident. For many, this has come as a shock, as Julio Iglesias, father of Enrique Iglesias, has long been a symbol of romance, passion, and success. His stage persona as a lover was seen more as part of show business than a cause for serious concern.
Julio Iglesias’s Career and Public Image
Julio Iglesias is one of the most commercially successful Spanish-language artists in history. His career began in the 1960s, and in 1970, he represented Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest, finishing fourth with the song “Gwendolyne.” Over the decades, he has sold hundreds of millions of records, becoming a global star and cultivating an image of immense popularity with women. Iglesias has often publicly fueled this image, joking about rumors of thousands of lovers and proudly calling himself a champion in personal matters.
Officially, Julio Iglesias has eight children, including Enrique Iglesias. In 2014, he reacted sharply to comparisons between his personal life and that of his son, stating that no one could match him in matters of women. These words, once seen as part of his image, now carry a different weight.
Family Spotlight
Amid the scandal, attention has turned to the Iglesias family. Anna Kournikova recently gave birth to her fourth child with Enrique Iglesias. The couple, who also have 7-year-old twins Nicholas and Lucy, and a 5-year-old daughter Maria, prefer to live a quiet, private life in their Miami home, distancing themselves from public dramas.
