Meet James Broad: The New Face of The Travelling Auctioneers

The Travelling Auctioneers has made its triumphant return to the BBC, introducing four new cast members, including the charismatic auctioneer James ‘JB’ Broad. Joining the ranks alongside fellow auctioneer Briony ‘Bee Harford’ and skilled furniture restorers Lauren Wood and Saf Fakir, James brings a fresh energy to the beloved series.

James Broad’s Enthusiasm for the Show

James Broad has expressed his excitement about joining the cast, stating, “The opportunity to travel and meet incredible people while uncovering the stories behind their cherished possessions is truly magical. I’m particularly looking forward to the excitement of the auctions themselves – there’s nothing quite like the anticipation of finding out which items resonate most with buyers.”

James is incredibly proud of the team and, two weeks before the show’s return, he shared, “I feel so lucky to have the privilege of working with these wonderful humans. Each and every one of you are amazing, and the show wouldn’t be what it is without you all – so thank you.”

James Broad’s Personal Life

Marriage and Family

James Broad is happily married to Emma Pawsey. The couple tied the knot on November 14, 2024, three years after James proposed. He popped the question in 2021, sharing the joyous news on social media: “Yesterday, the most exciting thing happened. I asked the love of my life to marry me, and she actually said YES.”

Emma has been a steadfast supporter of James, standing by him through thick and thin. He described her as someone who has made him laugh more than he could imagine, beautiful both inside and out. The couple’s wedding took place at Shustoke Barn in Warwickshire, a day James described as magical and special.

Although James and Emma do not currently have children, they share an adorable Labradoodle named Bailey. The couple can often be seen driving around in their VW van, affectionately named Vinnie.

Auctioneering Career

James Broad’s journey in the auctioneering business began at the age of 17, starting as a porter responsible for moving furniture and carrying boxes. He quickly fell in love with the stories and theatre contained within an auction house, deciding to make it his passion.

Over a decade later, James is now the Associate Director and Lead Auctioneer at Whittaker & Biggs Auction Room. He stands on the rostrum where he once stacked chairs, guiding clients through valuations, sales, and the thrill of bidding.

James’s work has also led him into television. Fans of The Travelling Auctioneers may recognize him from similar shows such as The Bidding Room, Antiques Roadshow, and The Great Antiques Challenge. He has expressed his enjoyment of his time on TV, stating, “Tonight is my debut on Antiques Roadshow. Never in a million years did I think I would be saying this, but for once, I’m going to say I’m actually pretty proud of myself.”
