Pierce Brosnan’s Astounding Metamorphosis in ‘Giant’ Stuns Co-Stars
In his latest role in the boxing biopic Giant, Pierce Brosnan underwent a dramatic transformation that left his co-stars in awe. The film, which chronicles the tumultuous career of British boxer ‘Prince’ Naseem Hamed, features Brosnan as Brendan Ingle, the legendary Irish trainer and manager.
The Art of Transformation
Brosnan’s commitment to his role was evident as he spent countless hours in the makeup chair, undergoing extensive prosthetics to portray the older Ingle. The transformation was so convincing that even his co-stars were taken aback. Olivia Barrowclough, who played journalist Vicki Quinn, shared her experience:
‘Many of my scenes are with him when he’s wearing all these prosthetics to make him look older. We were filming the end of the film before the start, and he really didn’t look like himself. There was one day where we filmed the start of the film where he looks more like he does in real life, and I was like, ‘Oh my god, that’s Pierce Brosnan!’ That was a surreal moment.’
A Mentor on Set
Brosnan’s kindness and professionalism on set were widely praised by the cast. Arian Nik, who played Riath Hamed, the boxer’s brother, spoke highly of Brosnan’s supportive nature:
‘He was so reassuring and boosted me the whole time. He was really impressed by the work I was doing—and for me, to receive that from someone like him was mind-blowing. He’s a real gentleman, and to have worked with him was truly surreal!’
Inspiring the Young Talent
Brosnan’s real-life commitment to uplifting young talent mirrored his character’s dedication. Young actors Ghaith and Ali Saleh, who played Naz at ages 7 and 12, shared their heartwarming experiences with Brosnan:
‘He inspired us, motivated us, and was like our guidance. It was an honor to work with him, and he always encouraged us and gave us advice. Behind the scenes, just talking to the actual Pierce and getting to know him, that’s one of our favorite bits.’
The Family’s Seal of Approval
Brendan Ingle’s son, Dominic Ingle, who is a boxing coach himself, gave Brosnan’s performance the family’s seal of approval:
‘He played a tremendous part and captured the essence of Brendan Ingle, my dad. Fifteen to 20 minutes into the film, I was thinking, ‘I’m just watching my dad on a video here.’ That’s how much he wrapped me into it. He got his mannerisms, and he obviously studied a lot of videos of Brendan. He got it down to a tee.’
