MAC Cosmetics’ New Collection: A Blast from the 90s

MAC Cosmetics’ New Collection: A Blast from the 90s

Glitter, stickers, and vibrant colors—everything we adored in the 90s—are making a comeback in 2018. MAC Cosmetics, in collaboration with the trendsetting designer Nicola Formichetti, is launching a new cosmetics collection featuring shiny stickers inspired by the 90s.

Nicola Formichetti: A Visionary Designer

Nicola Formichetti, the creative force behind this collection, has an impressive resume. He served as the creative director for the fashion house Mugler, known for its modernism and humanoid-like creations. In 2011, he took on the role of creative director at UNIQLO, and in 2013, he signed a contract with Diesel. Simultaneously, he worked as the fashion editor for Vogue Hommes Japan. Notably, Formichetti shaped Lady Gaga’s image for her “Born This Way” era and curated her iconic costumes for several years.

Tomorrow is the anniversary (one day early but couldn’t resist lol) of when we released the music video for @ladygaga‘s single, Born This Way.

The Collection: A Millennial Dream

The new collection is a perfect blend of millennial and cute aesthetics. Unlike Jeremy Scott’s collection, it avoids bright or neon shades, opting instead for soft pastel colors that are still highly pigmented.

The Panda: A Symbol of the Line

The star of the line is the panda, inspired by Formichetti’s Nicopanda clothing line. Three-dimensional panda heads will adorn brushes and palettes, while the Nicopanda logo will appear on powders and other products.

The Eyeshadow Palette: A Spectrum of Colors

The demonstrated eyeshadow palette includes:

  • “Atomic Blush”: A seafoam green shade
  • “Otaku”: A pastel purple with a pearl finish
  • “Harajuku Blu”: A royal purple
  • “Panda Riot”: A shade between purple and deep blue

The collection also features a lavender gloss with silver glitter, the trendiest shade of the season. For the bold, there’s “Galactic Mint.” And yes, pink shades are also part of the collection.

Face Stickers: The Cherry on Top

In addition to blushes, matte lipsticks, brushes, powders, and false eyelashes, the collection includes special face stickers. Hearts, arcs, flowers, and, of course, pandas. You can now adorn your matte lips with floral petals and holographic stickers. Some elements draw inspiration from punk style, while others reflect the typical Japanese kawaii culture.

Formichetti states that the stickers are his favorite part of the collection:

“I can play with combinations for hours.”

Even if you prefer traditional makeup, you can still add one or two stickers as a bold accent for a Friday night out or simply have fun with them while trying new looks at home.

The collection will be available from April 5th on the official MAC website.
