The final season of “Stranger Things” is set to premiere in 2025, as officially announced by Netflix. Directors have released a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the cast from previous seasons returning to work. Familiar faces include Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, and Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield, among others.
Squid Game, Season 2
On August 12, a short trailer for the second season of “Squid Game” was released. The first season, which premiered in 2021, captivated audiences with its blend of childhood games and life-or-death stakes. The second season is slated for release in 2025. Hwang Dong-hyuk, the writer and director of the first season, will return for the second season. In a 2023 Netflix interview, Hwang stated, “I still have a lot to do, and I know it will be worth the wait.”
The Last of Us, Season 2
Another series getting a continuation in 2025 is “The Last of Us.” While there are no specific details about the release date, HBO chief Casey Bloys has indicated that it can be expected in the first half of the year. The series is based on the popular game “The Last of Us” and tells the story of events in the USA following a pandemic of the Cordyceps fungus, which begins to mutate, threatening the extinction of humanity. The main roles are played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. The new season will be based on the game’s sequel, “The Last of Us Part 2,” continuing the story of the main characters. The second part of the series takes place five years later and focuses on the now 19-year-old Ellie, who lives with Joel in Jackson, Wyoming.
Wednesday, Season 2
Another popular series getting a second season in 2025 is “Wednesday.” It premiered on Netflix in November 2022 and quickly amassed over 1 billion hours of viewing on the platform. This achievement made it the second most-watched English-language series, securing a continuation and even a separate show dedicated to the adventures of one of the characters. The plot of the second season remains unknown. However, actress Jenna Ortega, who played the lead role in the first season, has stated that the new season will be significantly larger in scale and more intricate than the first. Additionally, the new season will focus more on the horror aspect.
Young Sherlock, Season 1
Legendary director Guy Ritchie, known for creating engaging films and series, continues to experiment with television adaptations of his successful movies. Now, it’s time for the story of a 19-year-old Sherlock Holmes, played by Hero Fiennes-Tiffin, who must solve a complex murder within the walls of Oxford University. The creators of the series promise an innovative project that combines a deep plot, vivid acting, and the unparalleled atmosphere of the famous “Young Sherlock Holmes” book series by British writer Andy Lane. The series will consist of 8 episodes. Guy Ritchie’s work does not yet have a definite release date. However, it is highly likely that the series will premiere in 2025.
