Vera Polozkova’s Ex-Husband Seeks Revenge: Custody Battle and €100K Demand

Vera Polozkova, a renowned poetess, is facing a legal battle with her ex-husband, Alexander Bgantsev, whom she has accused of abuse and mistreatment. Bgantsev has filed a lawsuit against Polozkova, demanding sole custody of their two sons and her daughter from a previous relationship. Additionally, he is seeking €100,000 in damages for an interview she gave that he claims defamed him.

Polozkova’s Plight

Polozkova left Russia after 2022 and has been critical of the country, even toasting the death of Russians online. As a result, she has been labeled a foreign agent, complicating any potential return to her home country. The 39-year-old poetess has taken to social media to express her distress over Bgantsev’s lawsuit, which seeks “full custody of all children, determining their place of residence with him, and a ban on traveling with me.” She refers to his actions as “narcissistic revenge.”

Financial Struggles and Accusations

Polozkova claims that she has been the primary financial provider for her children, covering their education, nannies, school fees, food, clothing, and travel expenses. She accuses Bgantsev of neglecting his financial responsibilities towards their children, yet he has found substantial funds to hire lawyers to fight for custody.

“I feel immense relief because a terrible ending is always better than a never-ending terror,” Polozkova wrote on social media. “It’s a moment of clarity, seeing that I endured absolutely unacceptable treatment ‘for the sake of the children,’ preserving the figure of the father, but for him, nothing ever mattered except control and the ability to use you as an inexhaustible resource.”

Legal Battle and Emotional Turmoil

Polozkova describes the ongoing situation as “revenge through children.” She accuses her ex-husband of orchestrating a smear campaign, sabotaging documents, gathering information through lawyers, and using emotional blackmail. “It’s the visible pleasure from the chaos he creates in my already difficult life with the number of summons, conclusions, appeals; it’s hatred that has finally found some legal outlet, and now it’s flooding everything,” she concluded.

Despite the turmoil, Polozkova vows not to be victimized and understands her ex-husband’s motivations. She also mentioned that her eldest son was taken away from her in February.

Public Reaction and Controversy

In the summer of 2025, Polozkova gave a significant interview where she revealed emotional abuse, depression, and her divorce. The interview sparked a strong reaction online, but contrary to expectations, the public did not rush to support her. Many saw her story as a reflection of her own abusive behavior rather than her ex-husband’s.

Polozkova accused her husband of becoming emotionless and demanding her participation and attention to the family. Meanwhile, she focused on her career, held creative evenings, and traveled the world. She admitted that her husband took care of household chores, prepared documents, took the children to school and doctors, and eventually “faded away” as a person.

Despite everything, users defended the husband, calling Polozkova herself an abuser. In 2025, the Russian Federal Financial Monitoring Service included poetess Vera Polozkova in the list of terrorists and extremists. Source
