Lady Louise Windsor’s Special Connection with Her Royal Godfather

Lady Louise Windsor shares a close bond with her royal family, and one relationship that stands out is with her godfather, Lord Ivar Mountbatten. In an exclusive interview with HELLO!, King Charles’ second cousin revealed his deep friendship with Louise’s parents, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and how they maintain their connection.

A Bond Strengthened by Texts

“Lady Louise and I text a lot,” Lord Ivar shared, adding, “But that’s about it. Young people are always very busy!” This simple statement speaks volumes about their close relationship.

Lord Ivar, who made history as the first member of the extended British royal family to enter a same-sex marriage, is not just Louise’s godfather. In a beautiful symmetry, Prince Edward is the godfather to Ivar’s daughter, Ella, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Penny.

A Friendship That Transcends Divorce

Despite their divorce, Ivar and Penny remain on excellent terms. “Divorce is never much fun at the best of times, but we have always been good friends,” Ivar said. “We didn’t have any real differences. Penny knew I was gay; I told her before we got married, and I think she felt she could change me. Ultimately, she couldn’t, and I think she wanted something more than perhaps I could give her.”

Lady Louise: A Princess with a Unique Journey

Lady Louise Windsor was born prematurely, a full month early, at Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey. Her early arrival brought complications, but she has since grown into a remarkable young woman.

  • Royal Secrets: Louise was unaware that her grandmother was the Queen until her school friends told her. Duchess Sophie described this revelation as a “shock to the system.”
  • Carriage Driving: Louise has inherited her late grandfather Prince Philip’s passion for carriage driving. Duchess Sophie has praised her daughter’s natural talent for this activity.
  • Wedding Helper: Louise has played significant roles in royal weddings. She was a bridesmaid at Prince William and Princess Kate’s wedding in 2011 and a ‘Special Attendant’ at Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s wedding in 2018.
  • Lady of the Lakes: In 2008, two lakes in Northern Manitoba, Canada, were named after Louise to coincide with her father Prince Edward’s visit to the territory.

Lady Louise’s Future

Lady Louise is currently pursuing her English degree at St Andrew’s University, following in the footsteps of her cousin Prince William and his wife, the Princess of Wales. Despite her royal lineage, Louise is not expected to take on royal duties in the future. According to Majesty magazine, she is more likely to pursue a career in the military, diplomacy, or law.
