Yuri Zisser’s Alphabet: A Journey Through Life and Wisdom
In the editorial section “Alphabet” of the magazine “City of Women,” Yuri Zisser shares his sincere reflections on life, ambition, and the pursuit of happiness. Let’s delve into his unique perspective on various aspects of life, presented in an alphabetical format.
Ambition: The Driving Force
Ambition is an essential trait for anyone aiming to achieve something significant in life. When you truly desire something, you can make it happen! Or at least, almost always. Ambition fuels our dreams and propels us towards our goals, making it an indispensable part of our journey.
The Concept of ‘Bayan’
Here, ‘Bayan’ refers not to the musical instrument but to a slang term for outdated or repeatedly encountered information. As we age, attending lectures, courses, seminars, and training sessions becomes less appealing. Younger individuals might find this attitude puzzling, attributing it to old age. However, the real reason is the wealth of experience. In recent years, I’ve found that these events often reiterate what I already know or have even taught to others. At 25, this information is new and valuable; at 55, it’s merely a ‘Bayan.’ The trendier the trainer, the more theatrical and shallow the content tends to be.
Authenticity in Everything
I dislike it when people try to present themselves as someone they’re not. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes they don’t, but eventually, the facade always crumbles. Authenticity is key to building genuine relationships and achieving true happiness.
Life: A Beautiful Journey
Life, often described as a chronic hereditary disease with a fatal outcome, is something I am infinitely grateful for. As I write this, I am listening to Bach’s famous F-minor chorale, which also embodies the essence of life. Despite its challenges, life is a beautiful journey filled with moments of joy and discovery.
New Beginnings
Starting something new is exhilarating! New ideas, new people, new experiences—it’s all incredibly exciting. On the other hand, achieving success in a completed project is equally rewarding. Both beginnings and endings have their unique charm and satisfaction.
Promises: Keeping Your Word
I strive to keep my promises—or I don’t make them at all, even when it’s awkward to refuse. It’s better to be uncomfortable initially than to let someone down later. When I refuse but later manage to fulfill the request, it brings me joy. It’s better to under-promise and over-deliver.
Travel: A Passion Beyond Music
After music, traveling is my favorite activity. I’ve visited 51 countries and know that this number will continue to grow. My favorite destinations include India, Central Turkey, and Thailand, while the most enriching experiences have been in the USA. However, Europe holds a special place in my heart.
Bread: A Simple Pleasure
After reading about the supposed harm of carbohydrates, I avoided bread for many years, yet my weight only increased. Recently, I learned that carbohydrates are essential for the human body, so I started eating bread again. The French eat white baguettes with butter and fatty cheese daily and remain slim. I haven’t lost weight, but my life has become happier.
Che Guevara: A Controversial Icon
Che Guevara, a professional terrorist in a beret, gazes at us from T-shirts. It’s unsettling to think that one day, souvenir makers might immortalize Osama bin Laden in the same way. Unfortunately, Stalin has already been featured on T-shirts.
Humor: The Spice of Life
Humor is a necessary ingredient in life, both today and always. Without humor, we risk losing our sense of happiness and the lightness of being. It’s essential to find joy and laughter in our daily lives.
Collective Success
I am convinced that significant achievements can only be accomplished collectively. As Hemingway said, “No man is an island.” Together, we can achieve greatness and make a lasting impact.
