Transform Your Plain Woven Bag into a Stunning, Colorful Masterpiece
Discover how to turn simple woven bags into unique, eye-catching accessories using pompoms and paint. This fun and creative DIY project is perfect for adding a personal touch to your everyday items.
Materials You’ll Need
- Woven bags
- Removable tape in various widths
- Scissors and ruler
- Art brushes
- Fork for pompoms
- Colorful wool
- Large needle
- Twine
- Paint in various colors
Step-by-Step Guide
Creating the Diamond Pattern
- Place the removable tape criss-crossed in diagonal lines to create a diamond pattern. Measure the space between each line of tape to ensure even spacing.
- Press the tape down firmly to prevent paint from bleeding underneath.
- Paint each diamond shape using different colors. Alternate the colors so that each diamond stands out from the ones next to it.
Creating the Striped Bag
- Use the same taping and painting steps as above, but vary the widths of the tape to create different patterns.
- For thinner lines with no space between colors, wait for the first coat to dry completely, then tape more lines and paint.
Adding a Colored Wool Edge
- Double the wool and use a large embroidery needle to loop it up and over the edge of the bag, leaving about 1cm between each loop.
- Secure the wool by tying a knot at the start and finish on the inside of the bag to hide the knots.
Making the Pompoms
- Use a fork to create small, cute pompoms. For larger pompoms, wrap the wool around a larger object.
- Wrap the wool around the fork, adding as many layers as the fork can hold. The more wool you use, the fuller the pompom will be.
- Use a piece of stronger twine to wrap and tie the center of the pompom. Tie a double knot as tightly as possible, leaving enough twine to attach to the bag, then slide the pompom off the fork.
- Cut all the way around the curved edge of the pompom, avoiding the center twine. Tease out the wool and trim it to create an even circular shape. Finally, tie the pompom to the bag.
