Revamp Your Wardrobe Without Breaking the Bank
Revamp Your Wardrobe Without Breaking the Bank
Revamping your wardrobe doesn’t have to drain your wallet or consume endless hours in shopping malls. Sometimes, all it takes is a fresh perspective on what you already own and knowing where to find stylish inspiration without spending a dime. Maria Polnikova, the creator of the popular lifestyle community HONEY, offers some additional tips on how to refresh your wardrobe without unnecessary expenses.
Borrowing from Your Boyfriend’s Wardrobe
In a previous article, I discussed what to do if you’re tired of your clothes but don’t have the budget for new ones. Today, I’ll share how to get creative and incorporate your boyfriend’s t-shirts, shirts, and other wardrobe staples into your own style.
1. The Classic Shirt
It’s predictable, yet timeless. The men’s shirt has long been a staple in women’s fashion. We see it on models, street style stars, and fashion icons like Caroline de Maigret. With the right approach, a men’s shirt (or a women’s shirt designed to look like a men’s) can become your go-to piece for almost any occasion. Here are some rules to follow:
- Choose the Right Size: Oversized doesn’t mean ill-fitting. Find a shirt that fits you well, ensuring you’re visible beneath the fabric.
- Roll Up the Sleeves: Roll up the sleeves and unbutton the top 2-3 buttons for a simple yet sexy look.
- Pair with High-Waisted Pants: Combine the shirt with high-waisted jeans or trousers, or even wide-leg pants.
- Add Feminine Touches: Opt for stiletto heels and accessorize with a pair of earrings and a minimalist bracelet.
2. T-Shirts
Men’s t-shirts are often more practical and stylish. Recently, stores released collections featuring Star Wars characters, but I couldn’t find them in the women’s section. I had to venture into the men’s department, and that’s how my love for men’s t-shirts began. Styling them is straightforward:
- Pair a men’s t-shirt with jeans, a midi skirt, or a fitted mini skirt.
3. Outerwear
Men’s denim jackets and bombers often look more interesting than women’s. If you find the right size, they can refresh your outfits. For example, a delicate dress paired with a slightly oversized bomber looks perfect. A denim jacket is versatile—wear it with black jeans and a white t-shirt, or with a crop top and leggings.
4. Men’s Pants
Unexpected? I agree. This point is here for one reason: to say that men’s pants are a no-go. They’re cut differently, and no amount of tailoring can make them fit like women’s pants. It’s easier to have pants made specifically for you.
5. Men’s Shoes
Women have long been borrowing from men’s fashion, so men’s shoes are no exception. Some say that men’s sneakers are more comfortable and lightweight. Whether you try them or not is up to you, but I wouldn’t recommend buying men’s sneakers for sports.
Don’t be afraid to look unique and wear clothes that reflect your worldview. You have the right to respect your own taste—and it doesn’t matter what others think. And remember, don’t spend all your money on clothes.
