Paris Fashion Week: Unforgettable Moments

Paris Fashion Week has once again captivated the world, showcasing not just stunning collections but also unforgettable performances that often overshadowed the clothing itself. Let’s dive into the most impressive shows of the season.

Coperni: The Balloon Dress

The moment when Bella Hadid had a substance sprayed onto her, transforming into a dress right before our eyes, was undoubtedly the most breathtaking and memorable. This technique, essentially liquid fabric, was invented by Spanish designer Manel Torres in 2010. The liquid contains cotton or synthetic fibers suspended in a polymer solution that evaporates upon contact with the body. After wearing, the dress can be removed and dissolved for reuse.

The finale of the Coperni show was so spectacular that it eclipsed the rest of the collection. However, the show itself was remarkable, featuring a dress made from laser-cut glass.

Balenciaga: Dirty, Strong, and Metaphorical

Demna Gvasalia, the creative force behind Balenciaga, made a bold statement before the show: “I hate labels and frames. The set design of this show hints at the need to dig for the truth and stay grounded. Make love, not war.” The show was a powerful commentary on societal issues, with models walking through a muddy set, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

Loewe: The Anthurium Flower

The anthurium flower was the centerpiece of the Loewe show, both literally and figuratively. A giant flower was placed at the center of the runway, from which models emerged. The flower also adorned many of the collection’s pieces, and even the invitations featured this vibrant bloom.

Botter: Ice Bags and Condom Gloves

Botter’s signature azure blue was prominently featured in their collection, with suits, shirts, and coats masterfully adorned in this hue. However, the accessories stole the show: colorful condoms filled with water worn as gloves and bags frozen in ice.

Courrèges: Sandy Beach

The entire runway was covered in sand, and as the show began, sand poured from the ceiling. This could be a metaphor for the fleeting nature of time and the fragility of the world, or simply an attempt to recreate a beach atmosphere. The collection’s accessories were made from corals and shells, and the models’ hair was adorned with flower clips. In such conditions, shoes were an afterthought, and models often removed them during the show.

Dior: Art and History

One of the most spectacular shows, Dior combined fashion, art, and history. The runway featured a performance by choreographers, and the looks were inspired by French queen Catherine de’ Medici. Maria Grazia Chiuri incorporated elements from the era, such as panniers, crinolines, corsets, Gothic lace, and pearl chokers, which were popular in the 15th and 16th centuries.

Balmain: Renaissance Fashion and Cher

The Balmain show opened with a hologram of Cher, who made a live appearance at the end, much to the delight of the audience. The collection itself was a mix of Renaissance-inspired clothing, braided dresses, and accessories featuring zodiac signs and stone platforms. The show also paid homage to French painters of the 19th century.
