Overcoming Fear: A Step-by-Step Guide to Confidently Starting Your Blog and Stories

“What will people think? What will they say? Am I trying to be an influencer?” These thoughts often hold us back from taking steps that lead to success. Alena Grebenchuk, founder of an SMM school, shares how to start taking action and expanding your comfort zones, including confidently running a blog and posting stories.

Finding Your Comfort Zone

Alena Grebenchuk, founder of an SMM school, advises starting with a comfortable format to begin your blogging journey:

  • Easy photos
  • Videos where you are far away
  • Videos showing you walking, with a top view of your feet
  • Photos of food, nature, and your thoughts
  • Behind-the-scenes of your work (photos or videos)

Start small, and your brain will begin to adapt to this format, allowing you to try more complex tasks. Take small steps every day, gradually increasing the difficulty. Once posting photos in stories becomes easy, start with videos of yourself without words, and so on!

Facing Your Fears

To move forward without stopping, you need to face your fears and overcome them.

Fear of Rejection

The fear of being rejected, misunderstood, or not accepted as we wish is the first and most common fear. Often, it is unfounded. Alena conducted a poll in her stories, asking her subscribers how they feel about people who film themselves in cafes or on the street. Almost everyone responded that they admire such people and wish to be as brave.

To overcome this fear, you need to test all thoughts for realism, allow yourself to doubt them, and engage critical thinking. Ask yourself, “What if this is not the right thinking strategy? What if I’m wrong?” It’s important to analyze and record the results: “Look, it worked, but I thought I couldn’t do it! I did it, it’s amazing, I want to test this too!”

Low Self-Esteem

The second thing that holds us back is low self-esteem: “I won’t succeed. I can’t handle it. They are good: they are like that, and I’m not. They are friends with influencers.” If such thoughts are swirling in your head, it’s a victim mentality. Either it’s convenient for you to think this way now, or you don’t know how to think differently.

You need to take responsibility, understanding that neither your husband, nor your mother, nor your children are preventing you from developing—you are! There are examples of women with difficult life situations who develop, learn, and successfully run blogs despite their problems.

However, this realization alone is not enough. To grow, working with a psychologist can help. Our present is the result of our past. We are all traumatized in our own way, and this can prevent us from expressing ourselves and making our mark. To overcome this, we need to work on it.

Another important point is not to pay attention to others’ opinions. Words said by someone can prevent you from following your new path. Here, it’s important to analyze and not believe everyone, especially if these people have not achieved anything in life.

Surroundings

Our environment often holds us back. Instead of healthy recommendations and advice, we hear criticism, devaluation, distrust, and irony. People often violate our boundaries and try to destroy our desires. Why do they do this?

First, think about what you are doing to allow this. You allow people to treat you this way. Why? Again, it’s about your responsibility. Are you ready to take it, start protecting yourself, and be responsible for your actions and their results? A healthy environment is not a miracle; seek it out. If it doesn’t exist, create your own warm, supportive space where you will always be heard and helped.

Benefits

Don’t forget about the benefits and “perks” you will gain when you overcome your fears and start blogging:

  • Social recognition
  • New projects and collaborations
  • Increased self-esteem
  • Creation of your own products
  • Improved communication with subscribers
  • Practice in selling your services and goods
  • Motivating others by sharing your story
  • Financial growth

Believe me, everyone is afraid. But some are afraid and still do, while others are just afraid. Which category do you belong to?
