Billy Gardell’s Transformation
Billy Gardell, known for his role in Mike & Molly, recently appeared on the Sherri show, showcasing his incredible 173-pound weight loss. The 56-year-old actor looked stylish in blue jeans, a beige cable-knit sweater, and a pink collared shirt. Sherri Shepherd, the host, was astonished by his transformation and joked that she barely recognized him.
When I saw you, I thought we had booked the wrong Billy!

Gardell humorously responded, saying he feels like he’s in the witness protection program due to his dramatic change. He emphasized the importance of his health journey, stating, “I had to do something to get healthy, and I did, and I’m grateful for it.”
Health Struggles and Motivation
At his heaviest, Gardell weighed around 370 to 380 pounds and suffered from type two diabetes. His weight loss journey began during the COVID-19 pandemic, motivated by his desire to be there for his son and to “annoy” his wife for a few more years.
Weight Loss Methods
Gardell tried various weight loss methods before opting for bariatric surgery. He initially used Ozempic, a medication for type two diabetes, but decided against long-term use. He underwent bariatric surgery about four years ago, which significantly changed his eating habits.
Online Commentary and New Experiences
Gardell also addressed the online commentary about his weight loss, highlighting a double standard. He shared that he now enjoys activities he never thought possible, such as horseback riding and surfing. He humorously mentioned flying in a middle seat “out of spite.”
Reflections on His Journey
Gardell reflected on his changed relationship with food, stating, “Food is fuel. It’s not reward, it’s not soothing, it’s not medication. I had to get beyond my emotional relationship with food.” His diabetes is now gone, and he feels stronger and more energetic.
Gardell starred in Mike & Molly alongside Melissa McCarthy and later in Bob Hearts Abishola, which documented his weight loss journey.
