As part of our effort to build a new global economy, we are creating opportunities for women to succeed. Digital marketing is building a platform that empowers women and gives them the tools to achieve their dreams.

Digital Marketing and Women’s Empowerment

I am often asked how digital marketing is helping women’s empowerment. Self-promotion isn’t the only thing that counts, but it is a large part. Not just from a marketing perspective, but also from a social justice standpoint. We are working hard on expanding our own spaces and spaces for women everywhere. We need to continue this momentum and we cannot become complacent about it because women are still underrepresented in tech.

We are not talking about equality here; we are talking about having your own space—whether it’s a dedicated desk or an office with a breakout room or a private conference room—so that you don’t feel like you’re just another cog in the machine or another number on a spreadsheet. You need to be able to create your own space so that you feel like you have some control over your life and make sure your career doesn’t become one big boot camp for someone else’s kids (or husband).

Challenges and Misconceptions

There are two reasons why people don’t seem interested in this topic:

  • People think it is too tricky (we know it is)
  • People don’t know how to approach this topic (we know how)

Both of these points are valid, but if they are valuable propositions, they merit further discussion. People can’t be bothered with the technical part of it (it is hard enough without having to figure out how things work!).

The Impact of Digital Marketing

For many years, digital marketing has been used to promote products and services aimed at women. The use of digital marketing to promote products and services aimed at women is still relatively new. However, recent research suggests that digital marketing has the potential to change the lives of women around the world.

Our current findings from a study on gender-based online segregation in the UK found that women spend over 22% more time online than men. The research provides an innovative perspective on our current understanding of gender segregation and its relationship with digital media use. It also considers how digital media use might be changing in the future, particularly as women become increasingly influential within society.

There are many ways to help women’s empowerment, but digital marketing is one of the most effective tools. It’s not surprising that women are more likely to be individuals who engage in social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter) and use mobile devices (phone and computer). Women also tend to be more engaged in social media than men, so digital marketing can have a tremendous effect on how they see themselves and their potential.
