From Paralysis to Triumph: Alena’s Journey of Resilience and Success

Alena Pasovets’s life took a dramatic turn at the age of 17. Once a vibrant, healthy teenager with dreams of attending university, she found herself paralyzed on her left side and with impaired vision due to a brain tumor operation. But Alena’s story is not one of despair; it’s a testament to the power of resilience, determination, and the unwavering support of her family.

“Believe me, my dear, everything will be okay”: The Power of Parental Support

In the face of adversity, Alena’s parents stood as her pillars of strength. Despite their own struggles, they refused to let their daughter succumb to her circumstances. Her father cared for her younger sister, who had also become disabled, while her mother stayed by Alena’s side during her treatment in another city.

“At that time, it seemed like time was moving very slowly, and I wasn’t making any progress,” Alena recalls. “But looking back, it all happened so fast. I took my first step just one or two months after the operation.” With her mother’s constant care and encouragement, Alena learned to walk again and navigate her new, uncooperative body.

Her father, too, played a crucial role in her recovery. He carried her in his arms, bathed her, fed her, and even bought her sanitary pads. “No matter what challenges I faced, I always remembered how lucky I was to have such parents,” Alena says. “It was their help and support that enabled me to embark on my long journey.”

“What if someone pushes her in the hallway?! I don’t want to be responsible for that!”: Overcoming Obstacles in Education

Two years after her operation, during a rehabilitation session in Germany, a doctor suggested that Alena should continue her education. This advice proved to be a turning point in her life. Despite the director’s initial reluctance and concerns about her safety, Alena enrolled in a local college to study law.

“I’ve always loved learning, and it came easily to me,” Alena shares. “Contrary to the director’s fears, my classmates were always there to help me. They would carry my books, guide me to different classrooms, and even assist me when I fell on the ice one winter.” Alena graduated with honors and later pursued a distance learning program at Belarusian State University.

“Who would want you — a disabled woman with a child?!”: Finding Love and Strength

Alena dreamed of having a family, but the young men around her kept their distance due to her disability. Undeterred, she registered on a dating site and began going on dates. She eventually met her first husband, moved to Minsk, and became pregnant.

“It was one of the happiest periods of my life — expecting a baby,” Alena remembers. “Despite the doctors’ warnings and discouragement, I knew from the start that I would never give up this child.” Her husband supported her, and they eagerly awaited their son’s arrival.

However, their marital bliss was short-lived. After a heated argument, her husband struck her. When he left for a business trip, Alena packed her bags and left with their son, Pasha, to stay with her parents. They officially divorced soon after, with her ex-husband uttering hurtful words as they parted ways.

“I crammed Italian verbs and repeated my mantra: ‘Everything always ends well'”: Embracing New Beginnings

Instead of wallowing in self-pity, Alena chose to rise above her circumstances. She decided to learn Italian and enrolled in a local course. Her determination and positive outlook caught the attention of her future Finnish husband, who was also studying Italian.

“We started communicating, and I realized that he was the man I wanted to be with,” Alena says. They got married, and Alena moved to Finland with her son. She embraced her new life, learning the language, adapting to the culture, and even pursuing her passion for art.

Alena’s journey is a remarkable story of resilience, determination, and the power of a positive outlook. From overcoming physical challenges to finding love and success, she has proven that even in the face of adversity, one can thrive and find happiness.

Today, Alena is a successful artist living in Finland, married to her second husband, and raising her son. She continues to inspire others with her story, reminding us all that no matter what challenges we face, we have the power to overcome them and create a beautiful life.
