Celebrating Teachers: 5 Must-Watch Movies and TV Shows for the Holiday

On the first Sunday of October, we celebrate Teacher’s Day. In collaboration with the video service VOKA, we have prepared a selection of films and TV shows about teachers for this occasion, so everyone can remember someone who influenced their life.

“Teachers in Law” (2016)

This comedy series is about teachers who can do it all. While gangsters and the Chinese mafia rule Blagoveshchensk, the teachers of a local high school decide to take them on and help their hometown. Leading this incredible team of saviors is Katerina, an English teacher. Katerina recently joined the school but quickly gained authority, as she is well-versed in most gangster laws. And if you can handle the 9th “B” class, nothing can scare you.

“Here Comes the Boom” (2012)

Scott Voss is a 42-year-old high school teacher. When the school’s budget is cut and the music teacher faces layoff, Scott decides to take a desperate step: to earn money, he participates in underground fights with no rules, mostly as a punching bag.

Voss’s students and colleagues, including the charming school nurse Bella, are convinced that Scott has gone crazy, and this crazy idea will lead to big trouble. Who could have thought that the clumsy, unsuccessful fat man would become a sensation and an inspiration for the entire school?

“Help, I Shrunk My Teacher!” (2015)

Felix transferred to a new school. Not only was he late on his first day, but he also got into a fight. The angry principal called him into her office and started scolding him. He imagined her tiny to be less scared, and she actually shrank.

“The Philosopher’s Lesson” (2013)

A philosophy teacher proposes a thought experiment instead of a final exam. Students must decide what will happen to their classmates after the end of the world. But it’s important to remember that something more important than the annual grade is at stake.

“Teachers” (2019)

Sergey is the Deputy Minister of Education, a born leader, and a teacher by profession. He is used to teaching everyone: at work, his subordinates; in relationships, his mistress; and in life, his two grown daughters, whom he has raised alone after his wife’s death. Both daughters are also teachers: one works in a regular Moscow school, and the other in a prestigious university.
