Amsterdam: Must-Visit Spots for an Unforgettable Experience
Amsterdam: Must-Visit Spots for an Unforgettable Experience
Amsterdam is a city that cannot be fully explored in just one day. However, there are certain places that you absolutely must add to your itinerary. I dreamed of visiting this enchanting city in September to experience the autumn season in all its glory, with its rains, winds, and occasional sunshine. Here are the places I visited to soak up the true vibe of Amsterdam.
Exploring the City
The first thing I wanted to do was to wander among the canals, admire the houses, and stumble upon local shops. All the buildings look similar yet unique, with their windows, heights, roof styles, and the people who live in them. You can get a glimpse of the locals’ lives, as most apartments here don’t have curtains.
If the weather is on your side, I recommend renting a bicycle. It’s the primary mode of transportation here, and you’ll find bikes and parking spots everywhere. One of my unfulfilled dreams is to take a boat tour along Amsterdam’s canals. There are many options available, including guided tours, flower boats, open and closed boats, and even those serving food and drinks.
Tips for Your Amsterdam Trip
- Weather Preparedness: Amsterdam is known for its windy and rainy weather. A windbreaker with a high collar and hood will be your best friend during your travels.
- Accommodation: This time, I stayed in the city center. In the future, I would love to explore neighborhoods like Jordaan or De Pijp.
- Red Light District: I recommend visiting the Red Light District in the evening. It’s mainly tourists who frequent this area. Remember, photography is strictly prohibited.
