Alia Bhatt’s Re-Ceremonial sari is dyed using marigolds from Siddhivinayak temple

Alia Bhatt’s Diwali photo dump reminds us that there’s nothing better than the simplicity of festive celebrations at home. Styled by Ami Patel, this sari embodies the sustainable ethos of the brand Re-Ceremonial. With the idea of consistently re-wearing valued pieces, Re-Ceremonial envisioned Bhatt in an ochre and gold palette made out of bits of vintage Benarasi panels. Their Bibi sari in marigold, as seen on Bhatt, feels apt for Diwali and could also be reworn for a morning haldi function, a pleasantly muted option replacing jarringly bright yellows. Bhatt’s sari is also about wearability and comfort without coming off as too simple or bland.
The mainstay of the sari, which is dyed with recycled florals from Siddhivinayak temple features gota embroidered onto light organza. It’s the same line of thought that the fashionably aware but overly emotional take while refurbishing their mothers’ wedding ensembles into something more contemporary and relevant.
The pièce de résistance? A blouse made out of aged metal gota with adjustable side drawstrings perfect for fluctuating measurements and perhaps generously indulging in sharing outfits with friends and sisters. Her oxidised silver earrings with onyx detailing from Apala by Sumit and a black micro bindi create the perfect wardrobe inspiration for those tired of the usual kundans and jadau. A matching ochre kurti set with ruffle detailing for Raha created a matching moment for mother and daughter.
