Born in 1959 to a public relations director and a broker, Kyle MacLachlan grew up in a bustling household with two brothers, Craig and Kent. MacLachlan never dreamed of becoming an actor, accustomed to a simple life, manual labor, and the provincial pace. However, after high school, he enrolled in an acting program, setting the stage for his future career.

“I grew up in Yakima, a small town in Washington. I worked at a lumber mill, making doors for sheds. We cut down trees, processed them at the mill, and then transported the wood to make these doors. I worked there for three months and realized it wasn’t for me. It was too noisy,” MacLachlan recalls.

Meeting David Lynch

MacLachlan’s theatrical performances in Washington and Seattle caught the attention of renowned director David Lynch, who was casting for the film adaptation of the sci-fi novel “Dune.” MacLachlan sent in an audition tape, and Lynch immediately invited him for a personal meeting, ultimately casting him in the lead role.

“I’ve been spoiled by working with Lynch,” MacLachlan admits. Their collaboration spans nearly four decades, with MacLachlan starring in some of Lynch’s most iconic works, including “Blue Velvet” and “Twin Peaks.” Lynch not only gave MacLachlan his big break but also became a close friend and mentor.

Relationships and Love

MacLachlan’s love life has been as eventful as his career. His most high-profile relationship was with supermodel Linda Evangelista. In the ’90s, Evangelista left her husband for MacLachlan, and the couple got engaged in 1996. However, the wedding never happened, as Evangelista later left MacLachlan for French footballer Fabien Barthez.

Reflecting on his relationship with Evangelista, MacLachlan says, “It was a strange, spontaneous, and bright relationship, but we didn’t see a future together. I lived with her, knowing that nothing more would come of it. When talks of the French footballer started, it was clear that it was the end.”

MacLachlan found happiness with television producer Desirée Gruber. The couple married in 2002 and welcomed their son, Callum Lyon MacLachlan, in 2008. They share a love for sailing and spending time in the south of France, though MacLachlan still believes Los Angeles is not the best place to grow old.

Hobbies and Lifestyle

Beyond acting, MacLachlan is a man of many passions. He is an avid wine enthusiast and even owns a winery called “Pursued by Bear.” “I started making wine in 2005, and in the first year, we made 12 barrels of wine. I got into winemaking because I love wine and wanted to learn more about it,” he explains.

MacLachlan also enjoys gardening, fitness, and golf. He starts his day with two cups of cappuccino and sometimes pancakes. His love for cooking is evident in his appreciation for complex flavors and textures. “I love a good sandwich. The bread should be well-toasted, with fresh Emmental cheese, and a reasonable combination of sweet and salty, like cranberries, figs, and several types of meat: Black Forest ham and roast beef,” he shares.
