Two Years of #IAmOnline: A1 Project Volunteers Continue Making Mobile Technologies Accessible to All

For the past two years, Belarus has been home to the volunteer movement #IAmOnline, initiated by the company A1. This movement welcomes anyone eager to learn how to use smartphones and mobile internet or teach these skills to others. As a token of appreciation for their efforts in promoting modern technologies, participants in the project can now receive a smartphone or tablet. These new gadgets aim to make the learning process more comfortable and effective.

The Impact of #IAmOnline

Over the past two years, the #IAmOnline project, implemented by A1 as part of its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, has united thousands of volunteers and their students from various regions of Belarus. Additionally, the initiative’s website has evolved into an educational platform, offering a wealth of useful materials. These include practical recommendations for communicating with novice internet users and an #IAmOnline guide specifically designed for seniors.

Focus on Senior Citizens and People with Disabilities

The primary groups that volunteers work with are senior citizens and people with disabilities, as they require a special approach to learning modern technologies. This autumn alone, over 70 social workers participated in an A1 competition. From October 14 to November 24, they taught digital literacy to more than 200 students, including senior citizens and people with disabilities. The most active participants were rewarded with new gadgets.

A New Competition for Volunteers

To support other volunteers who assist these categories of internet users, A1 has announced a new competition for all participants of the #IAmOnline movement. To win, volunteers must teach digital literacy to as many senior citizens or people with disabilities as possible between December 1, 2022, and February 1, 2023.

Steps to Participate in the Competition

To participate in the competition, volunteers need to:

  • Register on the official competition website ionline.a1.by or be already registered there.
  • After registration, pass a test to confirm their competence as digital literacy teachers by answering at least 8 out of 10 questions correctly.
  • Receive an electronic certificate.
  • Begin teaching.

A special video tutorial has been created for volunteers, outlining all the steps to participate in the competition. They can also use the materials and practical tips available on the website.

Rewards for Winners

One winner will be selected from each region in Belarus, and one from the city of Minsk. All winners will receive HUAWEI Nova 8i smartphones. Additionally, three finalists who teach the most senior citizens and people with disabilities nationwide will be awarded HUAWEI MatePad 10.4 64GB tablets.

Participants in the competition can be subscribers of any mobile operator. For more detailed information on the competition rules, visit the official website. Any additional questions can be directed to the project’s email address: support@a1ionline.by.
