Kickstart Your Morning with Invigorating Herbal Tea Blends

For me, preparing herbal tea is a meditation, a form of self-expression, and a sacred ritual. How did I come to this practice? It all began a few years ago when I started practicing “mindful eating.” Mindful eating is not a diet or a cult; it’s a process of interacting with your body, which gives you hints about what foods you need and which ones weigh you down and offer no benefits.

The Journey to Mindful Eating

As I delved deeper into mindful eating, I found inspiration in preparing food and teas by hand. This led to my first “tea mixes,” which eventually became a family ritual. In our home, we have a tradition: the morning begins with preparing invigorating herbal tea for my beloved wife and myself. It’s a wonderful start to the day, a boost of energy and positivity, plus a health benefit for the body.

Four Herbal Tea Recipes

In this article, I will share four herbal tea recipes with you: starting with an energizing blend, followed by an immune-boosting mix, and ending with a soothing evening blend. I don’t specify the exact quantity of each ingredient because I prepare the mix based on my inner feeling. My simple recommendation is to make the tea several times, and you will start to develop your own sense of balance for the ingredients. I am sure that your tea will eventually have a unique balance of elements and a unique taste—your personal signature. Who knows, perhaps my story and recipes will inspire you to start your own tea-making practice.

Recipe #1: Multifunctional Blend

  • Japanese or Chinese green tea
  • Schisandra (natural antidepressant)
  • Thyme (antiseptic, anti-inflammatory)
  • Ginger root (immune system)
  • Lime (high in vitamin C, natural tranquilizer)
  • Thyme (flavor, nervous system, digestive tract)

Steep for 7–10 minutes.

Recipe #2: Light and Fruity Blend

  • Japanese or Chinese green tea
  • Green tarragon (energy, productivity, digestion)
  • Orange (aroma and tone)—a 1 cm thick slice, squeeze the juice by pressing a spoon in the cup
  • Ginger root (immune system)

Steep for 7–10 minutes.

Recipe #3: Immune-Boosting Cold Tea

  • Ginger root (calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamin C—anti-inflammatory, overall body strengthening)
  • Lemon (vitamins A, B, C, D, beta-carotene, rich in micro and macro elements—antiseptic, overall body strengthening)
  • Natural honey (antimicrobial, increases body resistance)

Steep for 60 minutes, drink chilled.

NOTE! Add honey to water cooled to 60 degrees or below to preserve its healing properties. It is recommended to buy honey directly from beekeepers—this way, it practically goes straight from the honey extractor to your hands, plus beekeepers store their harvest in proper conditions. Do not buy honey at markets that is exposed to the sun.

Recipe #4: Soothing Bedtime Tea

  • Valerian root (sedative for the nervous system)
  • Mint leaves (reduce excited state)
  • Natural honey (overall calming effect)

Steep for 7–10 minutes.

Note on Consumption: Some tea ingredients may have undesirable effects depending on individual body characteristics. For example, honey can help lower systemic blood pressure. Ginger and lemon are not recommended for those with gastrointestinal diseases. Please consider your body’s unique needs when preparing these teas.
