Belarusian Jewelers Unveil Smartphone-Inspired Jewelry Collection
Belarusian jewelers from the “Pounach” workshop have launched a limited-edition jewelry collection inspired by the sophisticated Huawei P50 Pocket Premium Edition smartphone. The design of the pendant, crafted from an Italian alloy similar to nickel silver, is inspired by the shape of the phone’s cameras, and the pattern replicates the unique design on the phone’s body. The accessory is as versatile as the smartphone’s camera, serving as a pendant, bracelet, or bag charm.
The Masterminds Behind the Collection
The collection is the brainchild of designers Olga Vangaeva and Vitaly Ozertsov from the “Pounach” jewelry workshop. As trained jewelers, they are the only ones in Belarus working with a special Italian alloy, an analog of nickel silver, which is also used to create these unique pendants.
Inspiration Behind the Design
The exclusive jewelry piece is inspired by the Huawei P50 Pocket Premium Edition foldable smartphone. The pendant’s shape mimics the phone’s camera block. The pattern chosen for the pendant is the same as the one on the smartphone, designed by renowned global couturier Iris van Herpen, a member of the Paris Fashion Syndicate. For her collaboration with Huawei, she captured the movement of electromagnetic waves, incorporating them into the design.
The Creation Process
Creating the pendants required meticulous work. The design development took a week. After sketching the design and placing the magnetic patterns, the jewelers manually created a master model from wax. The process was painstaking, as the workshop does not use machines or 3D printers—only a combination of manual labor and craftsmanship.
After creating the wax model, a metal prototype was cast. This was one of the most challenging stages, where even the slightest error could ruin the work and irretrievably lose the wax model. In the final stage, the piece was perfected to ensure the pattern looked precise. Based on the prototype, a mold was created, and the technological process was repeated multiple times. Each pendant was polished and smoothed to give the piece a brilliant shine.
Designer’s Insight
“The jewelry develops the idea of world designer Iris van Herpen, embodied in the body of the Huawei P50 Pocket Premium Edition smartphone. We applied a pattern with a visualization of electromagnetic waves to the pendant and thus continued the concept. The shape of the product plays with the rhythmic arrangement of the camera block and the round screen of the smartphone, which we have not seen before. The jewelry piece is handmade. The work was difficult and intense, but the result was worth it,” admitted designer Olga Vangaeva.
Collection Details
The collection consists of only 30 jewelry pieces and will be presented to the fashion community in Belarus. The accessory is designed to be versatile: it can be used not only as a pendant but also as a bracelet or a charm for a lady’s handbag.
The Inspirational Smartphone
The compact Huawei P50 Pocket Premium Edition smartphone, with its original pattern, stands out with its foldable form. It has two screens—a main screen and an external circular screen used for notifications, receiving calls, and changing tracks. The phone’s cameras can capture what others cannot. Thanks to special technology, it can create unusual ultraviolet photographs. The color range exceeds 1 billion shades. The model is often cited as an example of a new era in mobile photography.
