Exploring New York Through the Eyes of a Fashion Influencer: Alina Frendiy’s Journey
Imagine waking up in New York City, strolling through Times Square, and soaking in the breathtaking views from the Empire State Building. These are the experiences that Alina Frendiy, a renowned fashion influencer and the founder of the Ukrainian brand COOSH, shared with us. This interview marks the beginning of our new series, “Exploring Through the Eyes of Our Subscribers,” with Alina as our first featured guest. Join us as we embark on a virtual journey to New York City through her eyes.
Solo Travel and Self-Reflection
Alina’s trip wasn’t entirely solo, as she was visiting her brother who is studying in the States. However, she cherished the moments she spent alone, immersing herself in her thoughts and truly experiencing the city. “I’ve often thought about taking a solo vacation,” she shared, “but I think I’d be content with just 2-3 days.” Although she frequently travels alone for work, such as press tours or fashion weeks, a solo leisure trip is a new experience for her.
New York Through the Lens of Cinema
When asked about films that come to mind when thinking of New York, Alina mentioned “The Gossip” and “Home Alone.” For her, New York feels like a continuous movie where she is the main character. “Every street, every building, and every landmark reminds me of scenes from films,” she said. The four days she spent in the city felt like she was part of a movie, with the city’s vibrant energy surrounding her.
Must-Visit Locations in New York
While Alina didn’t want to be too cliché, she admitted that the Empire State Building is a must-visit. “The view from the 102nd or 132nd floor is indescribable,” she said. “It’s something everyone should experience at least once.” She also shared a memorable moment when she took a taxi from SoHo to Chelsea, rolling down the window and soaking in the city’s atmosphere. “It was my cheapest but most emotional tour,” she recalled.
Fashion and Diversity in New York
Alina was impressed by the simplicity and openness of New Yorkers. “They are very open-minded,” she noted. “While everyone is living their own story, they are always ready to help or ask how you’re doing.” She was also struck by the city’s diversity, with people from all over the world coexisting harmoniously. “New York is the center of the world and all nations,” she said.
COOSH in New York
As the owner of a successful brand, Alina was proud to see her brand recognized in New York. “It made me realize that I need to overcome the imposter syndrome,” she said. Visiting stores in SoHo, where many global brands are represented, she was convinced of the high quality of her brand. “I realized that we can easily compete with them,” she stated. When asked if she would like to open a COOSH store in New York, she replied, “Of course! It’s not just a dream but a long-term plan. In New York, you realize that everything is possible, and you choose your own path.”
