Amber jewelry is one of the most mysterious, captivating, and unique accessories. We spoke with Sofia Liskova, the founder of the brand “AMBER HEART” and a third-generation amber craftswoman, about how to distinguish real amber from fakes, the most popular amber items today, and where to buy a pure amber handbag.

How did your parents start working with amber, and why did you decide to continue this tradition?

It’s a long story. In brief, my grandfather was the first in our family to work with amber. In 1996, he founded a small enterprise where he and skilled craftsmen began studying this ancient craft. I grew up listening to my grandfather’s enthusiastic words about how amazing this stone is. So, I never doubted that my life would be closely connected to amber.

After my grandfather, my mom and dad joined the family business. While my mom traveled the world attending various exhibitions, my father created new jewelry, as trends constantly change and the world of amber jewelry, like any other fashion direction, does not stand still.

My parents mainly engaged in wholesale: both large stores and small retailers purchased from us. In 2017, after studying marketing, I decided to create my own brand and online store “AMBER HEART” for retail sales through the network.

What inspires you in this craft?

Of course, amber is a beautiful material for jewelry, but it is also a carrier of ancient wisdom and energy. Each piece of amber holds a centuries-old history, and when I work with it, I can subtly feel this connection with the past, the energy of millions of years.

Therefore, I am inspired not only by the beauty of amber but also by its spiritual potential. I always try to convey in my jewelry not only the aesthetic but also the energetic beginning: to lay in them the vibration of peace, harmony, and unity with nature. This helps me find my inner balance in work.

But perhaps the most important thing that inspires me is communicating with people who enjoy my jewelry. Seeing how they bring joy and help find spiritual comfort is the biggest motivation for me to move forward. I am glad that my work brings benefits not only aesthetically but also spiritually.

What techniques and materials are used in the production of your jewelry?

First of all, our company uses only natural Baltic amber. You would probably be very surprised to learn that even in luxury jewelry boutiques, they may sell not real amber but a mixture of epoxy resin and plastic. This is very sad because it greatly undermines trust in the industry as a whole, so it is our fundamental position to use only natural high-quality amber.

I also believe that our range is perhaps one of the widest on the market, as we try to make amber products for various requests and different budgets. For some, buying a necklace made of solid amber worth as much as a new smartphone is not a problem, but there are also those lovers of the “sun stone” who cannot afford such luxury. That is why, in addition to luxury jewelry, we produce accessories for the mass consumer, using the amber pressing technique.

Many people mistakenly believe that pressed amber ceases to be natural, but this is not the case. The pressing process itself involves placing pieces of amber of various fractions (sizes) in a container where, under the influence of high temperature and without access to air, they begin to melt. Thus, full-fledged jewelry is obtained from cheaper raw materials, which in their properties are in no way inferior to products made from solid pieces of amber. This is what dishonest manufacturers take advantage of, since it is almost impossible for an ordinary person to distinguish the difference without special equipment.

What is your uniqueness?

I think it lies in the fact that at the moment we no longer follow any existing trends in the market, but we set them ourselves. For example, a few years ago, I had the idea to create a line of facial massagers made of natural amber. Amber, as a hard material, is perhaps indeed one of the warmest and most pleasant for human skin. Moreover, it is endowed with unique properties, which I will talk about a little later.

Having developed the design of such massagers and set up all the technological processes, we proceeded to their production. Launching them for sale, we faced huge demand, in connection with which we even had to increase production capacity. But the most interesting thing is that our direct competitors also began to make similar products from amber. By the way, such massagers are still in good demand in the market.

But I still believe that the main uniqueness of “AMBER HEART” is the constant desire to bring something new into the lives of ordinary people, to be innovators in our field. I really like to “fall in love” people with amber, because it is incredibly beautiful and has its own energy.

Tell us about your brightest and most unusual works. What amber products turn out to be especially interesting?

At the moment, I am developing a premium line of handbags made entirely of amber. Why premium? Because the price of such a bag can range from 1500 to 2000 thousand dollars, and not everyone can afford it. But this will not be mass production, rather a piece product for people who “have everything”. I think any woman would be pleased to receive such a gift, because it is so great to realize that no one else in the world has such a thing. I think your readers will understand well what I mean.

Do you have a signature style?

Yes, we really have our own signature style, if you can put it that way: in our jewelry, we fundamentally use only amber and nothing else. That is, in our jewelry you will not find either low-grade gold, or silver, or any other metals or precious stones, since our main task is to reveal the full potential of amber, to show the world its soul and character.

Perhaps someday something will change, but for now we adhere to this particular style. You won’t believe how deep and thoughtful the images complemented by amber accessories can be.

What values and ideas do you put into your jewelry? Who is your brand addressed to?

I sincerely believe and am convinced that beauty should be accessible to every person, and therefore my jewelry is not only beautiful but can also be easily combined with different images. But believe me, my work is not limited to creating jewelry.

For me, an important aspect is also spiritual development, so in my jewelry I try to convey these ideas and show that beauty can be not only external but also internal. My brand is addressed to people who are looking not only for beauty but also for depth. I offer them jewelry.
