Prince Harry & Meghan Markle: Are Archie & Lilibet Ready for the Spotlight?
Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have recently suggested that their children might soon take on more public roles. Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and relocating to California, the couple has kept their two children largely out of the public eye.
Archie and Lilibet’s Privacy
Archie, now six years old, and Lilibet, four, have occasionally appeared on their mother’s social media, but their faces have typically been obscured. Harry and Meghan have been diligent in maintaining their children’s privacy, shielding them from public appearances.
A Potential Shift in Approach
Last month, the couple hinted at a possible change in their approach. They released a statement from their non-profit organization, announcing that the Archewell Foundation would be rebranded as Archewell Philanthropies after five years. The statement mentioned their children for the first time:
This charitable entity allows the couple and their children to expand upon their global philanthropic endeavors as a family.
Additionally, Archie and Lilibet appeared with their parents on the family Christmas card.
However, a friend of the couple told the Daily Mail that they were “genuinely confused” about the pair’s apparent plans to involve their kids more publicly. “Harry and Meghan were always so insistent that their children would be able to make their own way in life without the pressure of expectations or titles,” they explained.
Lilibet and Archie’s Titles
Lilibet and Archie have been raised in relative privacy on a family estate in Montecito. Unlike their cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, who have been raised publicly within the royal family, Lilibet and Archie still maintain their royal titles.
In 2023, Harry and Meghan announced that Lilibet and Archie would both use the titles Princess and Prince, respectively. This change was reflected on the Royal Family’s official website with the line of succession.
Charity Involvement
Harry and Meghan are known for their public outings, but in November 2025, they brought their children along for a rare public appearance during a special Thanksgiving initiative by the Archewell Foundation.
Archie and Lilibet joined their parents for a day of volunteering at Our Big Kitchen Los Angeles, where they helped bake cookies and prepare meals for the local community. This outing marked the children’s debut in charity work.
The couple has committed themselves to charity and philanthropy through the Archewell Foundation and Harry’s Invictus Games, which he launched in 2014. Their recent Thanksgiving outing shows that their children are being raised with the same charitable values.
Harry has spoken about how fatherhood has changed his perspective on charity. “I think once you become a parent yourself, everything changes,” he said at the WellChild Awards in September 2025. “It’s emotional enough not being a parent and seeing what these families go through, but then when you have your own kids or when you’re expecting your own kids, that’s when it really hits you.”
