9 Ways to Unwind and Recharge When You’re Always Busy

Agent Cooper once said that you should give yourself a small gift every day—something pleasant to look forward to. As someone who’s constantly working, I don’t have time for travel, all-night dancing, or extreme sports. With stress levels rising, I’ve had to find alternative ways to relax. If your life is just as hectic, here are 9 ideas to help you unwind.

Enjoy Engaging Conversations

Laughter is a great way to boost your mood. That’s why morning TV shows are often humorous. You can take it a step further by downloading funny podcasts or interesting audiobooks. This way, you can enjoy pleasant conversations that uplift your spirits without the active participation required in face-to-face meetings.

Have Lunch with Friends

Choose a less hectic workday and arrange a meetup with a friend or an old acquaintance who works nearby. Since you’re both busy, your conversation will be brief, allowing you to discuss only the most interesting topics over a cup of coffee.

Go for a Swim

You might not have time for regular gym visits or enjoy exhausting workouts. However, even a 30-minute swim can strengthen your muscles, relax your spine, improve your joints, and boost your overall health. If you can’t make it to the sea, it’s a great way to show off your new swimsuit!

Don’t Do Chores in Silence

Put on a new episode of your favorite TV show while peeling potatoes in the kitchen. Dance with the vacuum cleaner to Pink’s latest single. Create a playlist for your commute and work while checking out new releases on Apple Music. Even when you have to work hard to keep your home sparkling, you shouldn’t feel more tired than you do at work.

Get Creative

When you haven’t engaged in creative activities for a while, the pent-up energy can become destructive, making you want to trash your apartment or yell at someone for no reason. Spend an evening on a craft project or other creative pursuits. I love painting, even though I’m not particularly skilled at it. Painting by numbers with acrylics relaxes me and creates the illusion that I’m a great artist. Plus, it can help refresh your interior decor later on.

Play with Your Pet

At some point, having a dog becomes routine, and you might start paying less attention to them. Remember how much you loved running around with them when they were a puppy. Tease your cat with a new feather toy. These simple activities can bring joy and relaxation.

Take a Bath

Don’t limit your bath time. Experiment with essential oils and colorful bath foam. Forget the stereotypes about not staying in the water for more than an hour; just keep the temperature comfortable. Add a book and a glass of semi-sweet wine to your relaxation session.

Go for a Picnic

You don’t need to go out of town to sit on the green grass and enjoy a couple of sandwiches. In the mornings, head to a nearby park with a blanket, a container of hot sandwiches, and some citrus juice. Don’t forget your headphones!

Practice Self-Care

Even if you have regular sex with a partner, you can still enjoy solo pleasure. Evening self-care can help you relax after a long workday, relieve tension, and shift your thoughts away from work-related issues.
